Best Cat Trees
Even if you only have one cat, a cat tree is an essential piece of furniture to have in your home. A cat tree will satisfy your cat’s instincts to find a high-up, safe place to sleep, rest, and sit while silently judging your every move. A good cat tree will also have several good places for kitty to scratch to her heart’s content.
The best cat trees will have a solid, sturdy base that does not allow tipping or rocking, with no exposed screws or hardware that might scratch your floor. Look for a good mix of flat platforms, perhaps a hammock or round suspended bed for kitty to curl up in, an enclosure for shy cats who enjoy seclusion... or in our case, the evil ones who like a hidden place to lie in wait for an unlucky dog to walk by. Most cat trees are covered with carpet, fleece, and sisal or some other material that cats can scratch at. A good cat tree will have a “progression” of levels so a cat can easily climb their way to the top without too much trouble, especially if you have an older kitty.
Our favorites are cat trees we’ve had in our homes for at least a year being used daily by our kitty testing teams.

The Caribbean kitty team loves their natural cat tree and it looks fantastic in our living room there. If you are looking for something that is a bit more distinctive than your usual carpet-colored boring tree, consider one of these.

Recently we’ve seen a bumper crop of woefully undersized cat trees on Amazon. Not trees that are too short, but just overall sized better for a kitten than a cat. Think platforms that are less than 12 inches across. That might sound big but next time your cat is asleep, get out a ruler.
During our testing and evaluation process, we actually ended up with a few of these tiny trees and when we left reviews for them on Amazon, one seller had the nerve to actually write to me and tell us our cat was too fat for their very petite little tree.
So as you are looking at cat trees, be sure to get out a tape measure and get a good feel for how big (or small!) the platforms and enclosures on these cat trees really are! If the product listing does not show measurements for all the components of the cat tree, skip it!
