The Best Full-Size Blenders

Looking to upgrade to a blender that will not leave chunks in your smoothie and work hard for years to come? Check out our top three premium full-size blenders.

Blenders have been around for over a hundred years, and have evolved from being milkshake makers to multitasking kitchen appliances. Healthy eating enthusiasts love them for making smoothies, you can make perfectly creamy soups with them, and well… some of us still use them for a refreshing milkshake.

Here are some considerations. You really do get what you pay for when it comes to blenders, so we’re covering premium-grade blenders in this article. Most inexpensive blenders rely on the sharpness of their blades vs. the power of their engines in order to work effectively, and once the blades become dull, you are going to see less effectiveness. An example? Blending spinach into a smoothie and baby food is something several of our testers indicated they do on a daily basis, and once a blender started to wear out, the spinach was less smooth and you got… chunks. For a smoothie enthusiast, this is a huge problem.

Your blender should be easy to clean, should be able to mix smoothies and warm ingredients alike, crush ice with ease, and not shake itself right off the counter. Measure the dimensions of the space where you think you might be storing it- is it too tall? And how easy is it really to use? My first premium blender was a Blendtec that I still love and am loathe to give up… but it requires somebody watching it as it likes to blend its own lid right off and jumps around the counter. Nothing is more terrifying than turning your back for 30 seconds and suddenly feeling like you’re in a Ghostbusters situation with green juice dripping from the ceiling and cabinets because the blender lid came off mid-cycle!

Fear not: We’ve blended many green juices in these three and found them to have secure lids, stability in the middle of a blend cycle, and excellent results.

I was pleasantly surprised by this blender. Braun has been upping the game in the kitchen appliance field recently and this blender is a great example. The controls remind me of a Blendtech with the 6 presets and manual/pulse button. The 68 oz Tritan BPA-free jar is triangular has a metal coupling, so you won’t get some of the wear and tear issues cheaper blenders experience here.  I REALLY like that the lid can clamp on and keeps my green juices where they belong, in the jar. It has a hot soup function so you can actually make some of those gourmet soups with ease, or just a nice hot potato soup on a cold day without dirtying multiple pots. This is a versatile game-changer and at this price it’s pushing a lot of other blenders out of the running.

love the Vitamix line of blenders for their versatility and stability without compromising on power. Vitamix offers 4 product lines, the Ascent/Venturist, the Legacy, Explorian, and Vitamix One. Our pick is the Vitamix 7500, from the Legacy series. Like the Wolf, it has a 2.2 horsepower motor, and a low-profile 64 oz jar. It offers 10 variable speeds and the pulse feature for quick chopping jobs. This thing is a tank. It is noisy but not as loud as the Wolf. The 64 oz jar is low profile so it’s wider but you don’t lose any performance. Perfectly blended smoothies every.single.time. Vitamix offers one of the better warranties, a 7-year standard warranty with the option to add a 3-year extension. Would we recommend going up to the professional Vitamix 750? Absolutely, the 10-year warranty alone is worth it.

This thing blew us out of the water with its performance and… noise. So while it was perhaps the best-performing, it was quite noisy. Still, it’s an exceptional product with a 2.2 horsepower motor. The BPA-free jar is shatterproof and even after a few months of intensive use by a smoothie junkie, no cracking or splitting. The jar holds a nice 64 oz worth of fluid but even smaller quantities of ingredients were blended with ease. And my best part about this was that in spite of its power and big jar, it’s less than 18 inches high. The stainless steel “pro” look will match your stainless appliances and look darn fancy on the counter. Red or silver knob optional!
